Dr. James A. Waldron

DR. JAMES A. WALDRON died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 from complications from a stroke. Jim was born in Pine Buff, Ark. on Jan. 1, 1946. He graduated from Hendrix College, Vanderbilt Medical School, and completed a residency and fellowship in pathology at Vanderbilt. His first senior faculty position was at Yale University, New Haven Conn. where he met his wife, Liz. He and Liz later moved to Denver where Jim was a pathologist at the VA Hospital. They came to Arkansas in 1989 where Jim was with the pathology department at UAMS until 2007. He later worked at St. Vincent's Hospital from 2009 until 2013 as a pathologist. Jim is described by his grandson, Zach, as "a father, son, husband, grandfather, medical doctor, sponsor, yoga instructor, tai chi apprentice, avid reader, world traveler, loved by many - and the legacy he left motivates me to continue making a positive impact on the world." Jim was a very active friend of Bill W. for 22 years and was a past president of Wolfe Street Foundation. He is survived by his devoted wife, Liz Waldron; mother, Edna Earle Waldron; son, Steve Waldron; daughters, Julia Bradt (Frank) and Mary Margaret Tillery (Darren); grandchildren, Christian, Ethan, Zach, Nicholas, Celia and Ava; niece, Suzanne Waldron; and nephew, David Waldron. Jim was preceded in death by his father, James A Waldron; aunt, Ruth Butcalis; and brother, William Waldron. There will be a service at Christ Episcopal Church, 509 Scott Street, Little Rock 72201, at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13 , with a celebration reception following the service at the church.
