Carolyn Vinson Curtis, 74, Benton, Arkansas unexpectedly passed in to everlasting life Sunday, February 9, 2014 at her home in Benton from a sudden illness. She was born November 8, 1939 in Salisbury, North Carolina to James Oliver Vinson and Pearl Alice Dotson Vinson. Carolyn had one brother and seven sisters and graduated from Kannapolis, North Carolina. After high school, she joined the United States Air Force, with the help of her brother-in-law, USAF recruiter, Jim McClain, where she served honorably until March 17, 1960. Carolyn met her lifelong husband, then USAF Staff Sergeant (and her supervisor), Jimmy Dale Curtis at James Connelly Air Force Base, Waco, Texas in 1959. They were married on October 16, 1959 at Crestview Church of Christ with Louie White officiating. Carolyn worked at several places during her lifetime, most notably, Ottenheimer's, Handleman Company, both in Little Rock, Arkansas, retiring from the Saline County Real Estate Tax Assessor Office in Benton in 2005. As a child, she lived in Kannapolis, North Carolina area before the Air Force moved her to Texas and finally settling in her adopted home of Benton, where she lived for the past 54 years. Although a transplanted Tar Heel, she was a diehard Razorback fan during her adult life. Throughout her life, she enjoyed sewing (making many of her children's clothes during their childhood), crocheting and most recently quilting. Carolyn blessed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings and many friends and extended family with custom, handmade quilts over the past few years. She leaves behind several unfinished quilts that were planned as gifts for friends and family. Carolyn was a founding and active member of Highway Church of Christ since 1962, where she supported her husband as he serves as an Elder. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Jimmy Curtis of Benton, son, J. Lance Curtis of Bella Vista, daughter, Jennifer Poole and husband, Gary of Conway, grandsons, Christopher Curtis and wife, Melinda of Cato, Blake Poole of Conway, granddaughters, Hannah Robinson and husband, David of Jacksonville, Shelby Poole of Conway, great grandsons, Jackson Curtis of Cato, Hadley Robinson of Jacksonville, sisters, Doris Ludwig , Betty Osborn and husband, Jack, Laverne Stamey and husband, Odell, Faye Hargett and husband, Ken all of North Carolina, Martha Strube and husband, Grady of Eatonton, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Pearl Alice Dotson Vinson, granddaughter, Catie Makenzy Curtis, brother, Joe Vinson and sister, Francis Marlowe. Memorial Services by Ashby will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 with visitation from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Highway Church of Christ in Benton with Minister Stephen Ford to officiate.
