Feb. 14, 2014 is recognized nationally as the day of love. It is also the day that Reba L. Griffis, 81 of Benton, Ark. was promoted and transported to her everlasting heavenly home with Jesus Christ. With her entire family and best friend Joe Fureigh at her side, she made her final journey. Reba was born at home at the Bauxite Pumps on March 10, 1932 to a warm and loving family who lived there to operate the water pumps for the Alcoa plant located on the other side of Bauxite. She was a lifelong, active member of Social Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She retired from the Saline County Courthouse in the late nineties where she was a custodian. In the 60's she worked at Curtis Mathis. Most of her life she spent as a homemaker and caretaker. Miss Reba was loved by many people in Saline County young and old. Mrs. Griffis is survived by her best and closest friend, Joe Fureigh of Bryant; son , James Donald Griffis (Fran) of Benton; daughter, Sandra Jean Johnson (Tommy) of Haskell; son, Tony Ray Griffis (Jean) of Haskell; son, Gary Alan Griffis (Susan) of Little Rock; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlene Tatum of Conway, Joyce Shelnutt of Benton; along with a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. "Jimmy" Griffis; father, C.E. "Charlie" Burnett of Benton; mother, Millie Dodson Burnett of Benton; sisters, Doris Dean Greer of Benton, Mary Lee Hunter of Haskell, Bonnie Faye Phillips of Benton; brother, Edward Burnett of Bauxite. Visitation is set for Monday evening Feb. 17 at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton, Ark. 6-8 p.m. Funeral is Tuesday Feb. 18 at Ashby Funeral Home at 2 p.m. The service will be officiated by Brother Don McCutcheon, a lifetime pastor to the family, and Brother Bill Williams, current pastor.
