Carolyn J. Smith

Carolyn J. Smith, 63, of White Hall, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born August 17, 1950, in Pine Bluff, she was a daughter of the late Glen D. and Mary Hundley Nichols. She was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Dollarway High School. Carolyn attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello, receiving her Bachelors in Education and began her distinguished teaching career. Always an advocate for education, she continued furthering her own and received her Master's in Gifted Education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Mrs. Smith enriched the lives of children for over thirty years, she taught in the Dollarway School District for 11 years. She then taught elementary school in Conway, Arkansas, retiring after 19 years of inspiring young minds. Mrs. Smith received the Conway School District Teacher of the Year award in the 2005-2006 school year. In October of 1970, she married Jimmy Smith in Pine Bluff. Together they had two sons, and shared nearly 44 years of life, love and marriage. While in Conway, she was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church. After moving to Pine Bluff, she attended First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Smith, of White Hall; her sons, Andrew Smith, of Woodbridge, Virginia and Scott Smith, of Pine Bluff; her four grandchildren, Sarah, Austin, Palmer & Alex Smith; and her brother, Glen Nichols, Jr., of Pittsburgh, Kansas. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Hammett Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
