Minerva "Jane" Kunze Staat Johnson

Minerva "Jane" Kunze Staat Johnson, 81, of Chesapeake, VA went to be with her Lord, Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. She was born July 3, 1932 in Winston-Salem, N.C. to the late George A. and Minerva Barnette Kunze. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Johnson and her oldest son, James Robert Staat. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she was a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force, she was a Chief Physical Therapist and retired from the Veterans Administrative Hospital, working in Washington, DC and North Little Rock, Arkansas. Jane then worked for eight years as a physical therapist where she worked and tended to her son, James with Down's syndrome. Mrs. Johnson was very involved with the Masonic Organizations in Arkansas and Virginia. She was Past Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star; Past Queen of Mat-Ta-Nah Temple, Daughters of the Nile; Past President of the Social Order of the Beauceant; Past Mighty Chosen One of Bendemeer Caldron and a Past Supreme Officer of the Supreme Caldron, Daughters of Mokanna; Past Royal Matron of the Order of the Amaranth as well as being active with the Rainbow Girls. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Katherine E. Edwards (Ted), Virginia M. King (Tony), Stephen L. Staat and David B. Staat (Sandy); five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren, many precious great-grandchildren and sister, Marianne L. Kunze. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Chesapeake at 11 a.m. with Rev. H. Frank Holley officiating. Burial will be at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
