Katherine Glenn (Kay) VanTrain

Katherine Glenn (Kay) VanTrain died February 20, 2014. Born Sept. 19, 1919 in Thayer, Missouri, Katherine Glenn DuBois. On February 20, 2014 our sweet grandmother, mother, great-grandmother passed on to a better place. She was the most giving person we have known. She grew up during the Depression in the Ozarks, worked tirelessly all her days. She was the first woman president of an independent telephone company and the first woman president of the Arkansas Telephone Association. After her retirement she worked on in her community and her garden. She was a great fisherman. She survived the death of two husbands, Carroll Truett Adair and E.G. VanTrain. She leaves behind two daughters and one son-in-law, Carolyn and Dick Halsell and Gay Adair; five grandchildren, Scot and Allison Halsell, John Christian and Jill Halsell, Annabel Easley, Dakota Cronin, and Flannery Cronin; four great-grandchildren, Blake Halsell, Davis Halsell, Truett Easley and Avery Easley. We admired her for her courage, good sportsmanship, eye for beauty, perfectionist spirit, humor, cantankerousness, generosity and love of the natural world. A graveside memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens, Heber Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be greatly needed at Arkansas Food Bank, 4301 W. 65th, Little Rock, Ark. 72209. www.olmstead.cc.
