William Gerald Fowler

Dr. William Gerald Fowler, 83, passed away Friday, Feb. 14 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. He had been a resident of Batesville for more than 20 years. He was born in North Little Rock, Ark. on Jan. 26, 1931 to Thomas and Flora Fowler. He was a graduate of Carlisle High School. He attended Ouachita Baptist University, graduated from the University of Arkansas. He received his M.D. in 1961 from the University of Arkansas Medical School. He was in private practice in Huntsville and DeWitt, Neb. After a psychiatric residency at UAMS he was in private practice as a psychiatrist in Urbana, Ill. (1970-1983), Harrison (1984) and Batesville and Jonesboro, until his retirement in 2009. He was predeceased by Marie Garvey Fowler, his wife of 52 years; his sister, Betty Fowler Terry; his granddaughter, Candice Maxwell. Survived by daughters, Barbara Jan Fowler of Little Rock and Julia Marie Darley of Bethlehem, Ga.; his granddaughters, Lauren and Julianna Walda of Bethlehem; his sisters, Zoe Fowler of Brinkley and Jan Burgess of Greensboro, N.C.; his brothers, Henry Fowler of Tichnor and Richard Fowler (Kitty) of Eldon, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration of his life was held on Sunday, Feb. 16 at the home of his sister, Zoe Fowler. At a later date he will be buried in Buford, Ga.
