Elizabeth J. Betty Cook

Elizabeth J. "Betty" Cook, age 89, of Jacksonville passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014. She had a long working career in the insurance industry, having retired from Meadors & Adams Insurance Agency. She was for many years a member of the former Insurance Women of Little Rock, a professional women's organization where she held many offices, inspired and encouraged many members to excel in their chosen careers. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. She was an avid Razorback fan, especially basketball and enjoyed watching all the games. She had a generous spark and wonderful wit. She had a story for every occasion. Her family and friends will miss her storytelling and wonderful outlook on life. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bess McDowell of Little Rock and a sister, Millie McSweeney of Ft. Myers, Florida. She is survived by her sister, Lena Mae Skinner of Denver, Colorado, nieces, Judy Welch and her husband Walt of Denver, Colorado, Jean McSweeney and her husband Jay HoHam of Little Rock, nephews, Tommie Dean Skinner and his wife Pauline of Gardena, California, Larry Harvey and his wife Linda of Ft. Myers, Florida, a host of great-nieces and great-nephews from all across the country and Italy. She is also survived by a special friend Liz Oswald, and all of the former members of the Insurance Women of Little Rock. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander with Rev. Mark McDonald officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Stuck Scholarship Fund at First United Methodist Church, 308 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas 72076.
