Bertha Sue Baker White, age 68, of Bald Knob, died Monday, February 24, 2014, in Searcy. She was born April 26, 1945, in Kensett, Ark. to Archie Bennie Green Baker and Mattie Malissa Nelson Baker. Bertha worked for 31 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in West Point. She is survived by one daughter, Sylvia (Charles) Ball of Bald Knob; two sons, Marc (Kecha) White of Memphis and Phillip (Stacy) White Jr. of Bald Knob; six grandchildren, Monique Ball, Sierra White, Phillip White III, and Trinity White all of Bald Knob, Dylan White and Skyler White of Memphis; one great-grandson, Kylon Ball of Bald Knob; three brothers, James (Alice) Baker of Kensett, Marshall (Adelle) Baker of Minden, La., Vincent (Allyson) Baker of Seattle; five sisters, Lillian Bowman, Emma McClendon, and Virginia (Phillip) Hurrt all of Searcy, Bettye Bedford of Kensett, Phyllis Baker of Chicago; six brothers-in-law, Sylvester (Sandra) White of Searcy, Kenneth (Willie) White of Augusta, Carl (Ella) White, Darrell (Arlene) White Sr., and Victor (Annie) White, Sr. all of Bald Knob, Forrest (Anita) Tripp Sr. of Chicago; five sisters-in-law, Clarice Baker, Lucille Baker Hart, and Velta Baker all of Kensett, Margaret White of Chattanooga, Doris White of Flint, Mich.; and one son-in-law, Wakeland "Rocky" Higgins of Oxide, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Malissa Baker; husband, Phillip White, Sr.; daughter, Malissa White Higgins; four brothers, Archie Baker, Donald Baker, Foster Baker, and Kenneth Baker; sister, Annis Baker Brown; two brothers-in-law, Donald White and Marvin White; father-in-law, Sylvester White, Sr.; and mother-in-law, Della Mae White. Visitation is Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Bald Knob. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Central Baptist Church in Bald Knob. The interment will follow at Union Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Malissa Y. White Scholarship Fund at Bald Knob or Grambling State University.
