Violet Langford Oldham Brantley, 94, of Denton, Texas died on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Denton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Denton, Texas. She was born on June 6, 1919 in Rosebud (White County) Arkansas to the late Luther Boone Langford and Salina Missie (Gresham) Langford. Violet was a long time resident of Conway, Ark. where she was Secretary of the Selective Service Board until the office was closed. In 1974 she married James Brantley Jr. and moved to Memphis, Tenn., where she was employed at the Military Depot until her retirement in 1983. They then moved to Bella Vista, Ark., where they resided for 17 years. In retirement, Violet was active in the Bella Vista United Methodist Church Choir and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). She also enjoyed gardening and her garden club. In August of 2000, they moved to Denton, Texas, because of declining health. James died in December of 2000. Violet is survived by her daughter, Thyla Oldham Hogan and son-in-law, Turner Hogan of Denton, Texas; two granddaughters, Holly Hogan Downey and husband, Rusty Downey of Columbus, Ind., and Helen Hogan Harris and husband, David Harris of Wheaton, Ill. Also surviving is one sister, Ozie Stapleton, of Conway. Violet's six great-grandchildren are Jacob Downey, McKenna Downey, and Savannah Downey of Columbus, Ind., and Zachary Harris, Shepard Harris and Darby Harris of Wheaton, Ill. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway with Reverend John Greer officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
