James Allen Turpin

James Allen Turpin, age 82, of North Little Rock, Ark. passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014. He was born on November 19, 1931 in Somerset, Ky. to his parents, Clarence Turpin and Luanna Crocket Turpin. James married his sweetheart, Margie Todd in Montgomery, AL on April 6, 1952. . He graduated from Somerset High in 1948. He served in the Air Force for 27 years and was a veteran of the Korean & Viet Nam Conflicts, he was awarded many commendations including the Bronze Star while serving in Laos. He was a resident of N. Little Rock, Ark. for 36 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he served as an associate pastor for Sherwood First Baptist Church for three years. James was a member of Sylvan Hills First Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, college football and loved teaching his Sunday school class. James will be remembered by his loving wife and their children: Wanda (Jay) Allen of Dallas, Texas and Sondra (Mickey) Williams of Roseburg, Okla.. He is also survived by grandchildren Daniel (Ashley) Allen, David Allen, Matthew (Erin) Williams, Timothy Williams and great-grandchildren Kaley and Avery Allen. James was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Luanna and sister Elizabeth Sneed. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5th from 3-4p.m. at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Rd., North Little Rock, Ark. Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral for James at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Sylvan Hills First Bapstist Church, 9008 Hwy. 107., Sherwood, Ark. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park , Alexander, Ark.
