Monroe "Billy" Murdock, 68, of Mayflower, departed this life on Jan. 2, 2014. He attended school at S.A. Jones High School in North Little Rock, Ark. and later joined the Air Force in 1963 where he served his country for four years. He went on to further his education at Shorter Community College. He was employed at Harris Elementary School as the Custodian Supervisor. He later retired from the Pulaski County Special School District. Monroe remained a faithful member of Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Robert J. Jenkins where he served as the Superintendent of the Sunday School. His life-long dedication to the Masonic organization included many levels of achievements to include: Past worshipful Master Protho Lodge #281, Past Grand High Priest of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Past Grand High Priest of the Most Excellent Grand Chapter Holy Royal Arch Masons, Past High Priest of W.P. Brown Chapter, Past Eminent Commander E.J. Jackson Commander #8, Grand Inspector General 33 Degree, Illustrious Master for the Marshall Gilkey Council #12 of the Royal and Select Masters affiliated with the Royal and Select Masters of Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Murdock Sr.; mother, Gertrude Murdock; sister, Betty; brothers, Miles, Richard, Plez. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 29 years, Leona Faye Murdock; children, Sharon (Mark) Howard, Steve Washington, Phillip Washington, Ray Hawkins; brother, Charles Henry Murdock; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; family and friends.
