Robert Lee [Bob] Gordon

Robert Lee [Bob] Gordon, 95, passed away on Friday December.27, 2013. He was born on November 29, 1918 outside Knoxville, Tenn. to the late Walter and Sarah [Cable] Gordon. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of First Sergeant. He began his military service in Troop E of the 105th Calvary in the Wisconsin National Guard. After the Guard was federalized in 1941, he was a part of the 32nd Division within the U.S. Fifth Army. Bob saw service in the North Africa and Italian Campaigns, earning a number of medals and honors, including the Bronze Star Medal. Bob met his future wife, Bobbye, in Louisiana while stationed at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana while preparing for overseas duty. They were married at Muskogee, Okla. just prior to his deployment overseas. After the war, they lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin and Torrance, California before moving, in retirement, to Hot Springs Village. They were married for 61 years before Bobbye's death. Bob was an independent business owner, having a Mobil Oil gas station in Wisconsin and Texaco gas stations in Redondo Beach, California. He completed his work career working for AirResearch Aviation, the Garrett Corporation in Torrance. Bob was preceded in death by Bobbye [Aug. 25, 2003] and is survived by their three sons, Scott [Carolyn] of Little Rock, Craig [Lonette] of Claremore, OK and Derek [Karen] of Hot Springs Village as well as seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. For the past 10 years, Bob lived with Derek and Karen Gordon in their home. Bob and Bobbye were active in the communities in which they lived, most recently having helped to found the Community of Joy Lutheran Church in Hot Springs Village. A private memorial graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Way, Little Rock, Ark. 72202.
