Blanche Schlosberg Alman, 93, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. She was a lady of beauty, kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness, and class who lived life to the fullest. Blanche, a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, set a great example for others to follow. Blanche was born on June 12, 1920, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the only child of Charles and Lilly Schlosberg. Her husband and best friend of fifty-seven years, Sol Alman, preceded her in death. Together, they enjoyed dancing and traveling to see famous entertainers, baseball games, and the Worlds' Fairs. Before graduating from North Little Rock High School in 1938, she served as president of the National Honor Society and editor of the school newspaper. During her high school years, Blanche presided on the executive board of the National Federation of Temple Youth. Though Blanche received a scholarship from and attended Little Rock Junior College, now UALR, it became necessary for her to obtain a job. M.M. Cohn hired her and she eventually became Assistant Credit Manager. A longtime member of both Congregations Agudath Achim and B'nai Israel, she taught religious school, served on the board of directors, and acted as president of the Sisterhood at B'nai Israel. Blanche loved attending horse races at Oaklawn and listening and dancing to big band music. Her children Charles, his wife, Martha, and Larry, his wife, Jan as well as her granddaughters, Laney, Susan, and Sydney, survive Blanche. Blanche leaves behind many friends including her confidant of over 55 years, Wilsa Robinson and her Tree Tops family. The Alman family would like to thank Dr. Kimberly Curseen and the UAMS Reynolds Institute on Aging and Hospice Home care, caregivers Yowanda Smith, Vicki Washington, and Kimble Brown as well as the tremendous staff at Treetops led by Rhonda Peters. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at Congregation B'nai Israel, 3700 Rodney Parham Road at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014 officiated by Rabbi Barry Block. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Congregation B'nai Israel, 3700 Rodney Parham, Little Rock, Ark. 72212, Congregation Agudath Achim, 7901 West 5th Street Little Rock, Ark. 72205 or UAMS Reynolds Institute on Aging, 4301 West Markham St. #748, Little Rock, Ark. 72205.
