Shirley Ann Gates, 78, of El Paso, passed away at her home on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014. She was born Jan. 2, 1936 in North Little Rock to the late Frank and Frances Strout McElyea. Mrs. Gates was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church and the "Faithful Ladies" church group. She was very devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Gates; two brothers, Alonzo and Benjamin McElyea; and two sisters, Lillie Turner and Cora Marie McElyea. She is survived by her four children, Donna Harper of El Paso, Charles Cleveland Harper and his wife, Cindy of Little Rock, Keith Allen Harper and his wife, Nikki of Little Rock and Traci Croy and her husband, Aaron of Conway; eight grandchildren, Christopher Vanderpool and his wife, Montana, Aaron Vanderpool, Justin, Ashton, Ryan and Niklas Harper, and Danielle and Adam Croy; two great grandchildren, Kayla Vanderpool and Asher Shiloah Harper; one brother, M.D. McElyea; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Jeanie Harper; and a host of precious nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14 at Mountain Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Roland Spears officiating. Interment will follow in Grissard Cemetery in El Paso.
