Elvin Johnson, of Arkadelphia, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at his home. He was born on April 3, 1933 in Friendship, the son of the late Jeff Davis and Susie Ford Johnson. Elvin graduated from Friendship High School and served four years in the United States Navy. He retired from International Paper Company and was a member of Third Street Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. Elvin enjoyed his family, friends, hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Orlin and Melvin Johnson. Elvin is survived by his loving wife of 55e years, Mrs. Margaret Ann Porterfield Johnson, whom he married on December 5, 1958 in Malvern, two sons, David Johnson and wife, Rhonda, of Houston, Texas and Bobby Johnson of Benton, two grandchildren, Daniel and Amanda Johnson, three great grandchildren, two brothers, Bill and JD Johnson, two sisters, Melva Sue Hester and Velma Bussey and many other loving friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Third Street Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Lathem and Rev. Sonny Porterfield officiating. Interment will be in Gilchrist Cemetery at Friendship with military honors. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 North University, Little Rock, Ark. 72207 or Third Street Baptist Church, 224 Crawford Street, Arkadelphia, Ark. 71923.
