Richard Gordon

Richard Gordon entered heaven on Monday, January 13, 2014. He was lovingly known by all as "Poppy" or that man with his invisible dog, "Spot." He was a Christian, member of the Gillett United Methodist Church and retired farmer. Richard was an exceptional man, full of fun (and aggravation!), love, wisdom and an unbelievable devotion to his family. Poppy's happiest times were spent with his family. We were truly blessed to have him for a husband, Daddy and Poppy. He was one of a kind. Thank you, God, for our family. He was born November 29, 1939 in DeWitt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton Gordon and Dorothy Falls Gordon Cox and siblings: Charles Elton Gordon, Bobby Gordon, Virginia Younger and Reba Gordon. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Thelma Coffman Gordon; seven siblings: Janelle Erwin (Roger), Joe Bill Gordon, Tom Cox (Jane), John Cox (JoAnn), Joe Robert Gordon, Jack Cox and JoAnn Nady; children: Susan Hestir (Randy), Gay Counce, Laura Turner (Jammy) and Julie Hackney (Greg); grandchildren: Ronni Hearn (Jody), Holt Hestir (Lindsay), Randi Hestir, Taylor Counce, Cole Counce, Layne Turner, Landon Turner, Jake Turner, Jack Hackney and Ben Hackney; great-grandchildren: Jentry and Braylee Hearn. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, January 16th at Gillett United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service. Memorials may be made to Gillett/DeWitt Community Scholarship Fund, c/o Planters and Merchants Bank, P.O. Box 357, Gillett, Ark. 72055.
