Charles Rayburn Dougan, age 82 of Fayetteville, Arkansas passed away Monday January 13, 2014 in Fayetteville. He was born November 15, 1931 in Little Rock to Burton and Marie Rayburn Dougan. He was a member of Christian Life Cathedral in Fayetteville. He served in the U.S. Army and was an attorney practicing Real Estate Law. Charles loved his wife very much and said that she was a tremendous helpmeet and supported him in every way. He was a fantastic father who believed in and encouraged all his children to shoot for the moon and be the best they can be. He loved his grandchildren and attended all activities with gusto and good cheer. He edified and encouraged with words and love. He always had something funny and significant to say. He even would cut out clippings from newspapers and mail it for emphasis. Charles was known for his quick wit, flirty smile and outgoing personality. He never met a stranger and was always ready to give blessings away. His love for Jesus radiated throughout his life. He graduated in 1949 from Little Rock Central High then attended Hendrix College for 2 years. He attended the University of Arkansas graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BSBA in Business in 1953. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Sigma Chi Fraternity. Drafted in 1953 he served in the United States Army during the Korean War quickly promoted from "slick sleeve" private to sergeant. After his service with the United States Army, he earned a MBA in Business and Economic at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He started working with his father, Burton Dougan, at Beach Abstract and attended Little Rock Law School at night. He passed the Bar Examination and entered into practice July 24, 1964. His career with title insurance and law practice led him all around the state. He is survived by his wife Andra Spradley Dougan; four daughters, Beth Calhoun and her husband Chip of Des Arc, Arkansas; Carol Dougan Lipsmeyer of Fayetteville; Sue Dougan of Little Rock; Sarah Dougan and her husband Dave Schlott of Austin, Texas; one son, Charles Rayburn Dougan Jr. "Chuck" of Marquette, Michigan; his sister, Ann Dougan Hanna Newell and her husband Mike of Fayetteville; ten grandchildren, Elizabeth Butler and her husband Todd, Rebecca Mahone and her husband Taron, John Charles Lipsmeyer "Chad", Bryce Calhoun, Brent Calhoun, Hayley Calhoun, Bridgid Dougan, Cormac Dougan, Charlie Schlott, Grey Schlott; two great grandchildren, Kennedy Mahone and T.J. Mahone. Visitation will be 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday January 18, 2014 at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Funeral service will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. at Moore's Chapel with burial at the Fayetteville National Cemetery on Tuesday January 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite library.
