Peggy O'Neal Pierce, 89, of North Little Rock passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Peggy was born in Paragould, Ark. and was the daughter of James and Nola Holt Knight. She was one of nine sisters and two brothers, of which only one sister remains, Naomi Jean Schlueter in Clear Lake, Calif. Peggy was saved at the age of 17 at Carmi, Arkansas in the Fairview Baptist Church. Peggy graduated from high school in Manila, Ark. She married William Davis (WD) Pierce on March 17, 1944 and started their exciting life together in North Little Rock. They had four children, dic grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In 1968 they made the big move to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for WD's health. It was a good decision because they had many more years together at several locations in New Mexico, ending up in Elephant Butte. WD died in 1991, so Peggy returned to live in North Little Rock until she died on January 14, 2014. WD and Peggy had a motor home for many of those years and were able to travel to many places and visit their children and friends. Their children and grandchildren have lots of great memories of visits at the lake and adventures with Peggy. Life was never dull with her. Her time in North Little Rock was filled with good times with friends traveling to Branson, and singing in choir, as well as exercise and line dancing classes. Holidays were made special at her home with lots of good traditions that included boiled cookies, Easter egg hunts, and gathering around her small table. Not only was the table used for meals, but for playing chickenfoot, working puzzles, and eating homecooked cinnamon rolls. She would make sure you were not hungry. Peggy is survived by three of her children, Dennis (Beverly) Pierce, San Antonio Texas, Jimmy (Phyllis) Pierce, North Little Rock, and Sandra Pierce (Ron) Burke, Denton Texas. Her youngest son, John Thomas Pierce, preceded her in death. She also has six grandkids, Christina (Larry) Evans, Elizabeth Reid, David Franklin (Danja), Billy Pierce, Jamie Danuwar (Deepak) and Zach Pierce; and sixteen great-grandkids. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, W.D. Pierce, son, John T. Pierce; brothers and sisters, Annalee Layne, Alberta Baledge, Ruby House, Edna King, James Knight, Pat Thompson, Helen Mundy, Bessie Knight and Mary Lois Knight. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday at North Little Rock Funeral Home. Burial will be in Little Rock National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Online obituary at www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
