Luther Dean Smith of Sheridan, Arkansas was born August 15, 1928 in Grapevine, Arkansas, the son of the late Lonnie and Ella Smith. He was an active member of New Life Fellowship Church in Sheridan. He had retired from West Bend and was a self employed carpenter. He also was a Funeral Assistant for Memorial Gardens Funeral Home being known for handing out peppermints. Luther died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Baptist Heath Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 85. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harvey Smith, Basil Smith, and Othel Smith and a sister, Geneva Green. Survivors, Sons, Roy Smith and wife Diane of Sheridan, Jerry Smith and Maggie Clark of Sheridan; Terry Smith and wife Deanna of Sherwood; daughter, Tricia Bryant of Prattsville; brother, Dewitt Smith and a sister, Wilma Ashcraft; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 22, 2014 At Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel with Bro. Steve Cypert and Bro. Jimmy Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6-9 p.m. Pallbearers will be Eddie Benfield, Dale Davenport and grandsons, Josh Taylor, Mark Smith, Nathan Smith and Joseph Bryant. Honorary pallbearers are Tim Edwards and Harold Mullins. Peppermint passers will be his great-grandchildren, Kayla McGhee, Lillie Edwards and Lane Mullins. Flowers are welcome.
