Madie Yeatman Smith, 104 of Monticello passed away Sunday, January 26 at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. She left this world on her Lord's Day, her favorite day of the week with a gorgeous sunset. She was born September 2, 1909 to the late Lewis Yeatman and Delmar Lindsey Yeatman, and was the widow of Homer Smith. She was a retired cafeteria manager for Monticello School District in the late 1950's and early 60's and a homemaker. Madie was a faithful and longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Monticello. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Fred Smith; one daughter-in-law, Priscilla Smith, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include one son, James R. "Jim" Smith of Monticello; two daughters, Juanita Smith Marks and husband, Jack of Monticello and Delma Smith Thompson and husband, Dick of Pittsburg, Kan.; one daughter by choice, Alyce McDonald of Hamburg; ten grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, January 30 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday night.
