William (Buck) Cross

William B. (Buck) Cross, 88, of Benton, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family and friends Monday, January 27, 2014. He was of the Missionary Baptist Faith. Buck was born April 11, 1925 in Mt. Moriah, Arkansas to the late John and Jessie Cross. He retired from Alcoa where he had worked most of his adult life. Buck was married to his sweetheart Louise for 66 years. While his great love was for his family, a close second was farming. Buck was most at home on his tractor in a field bailing hay, tending his cows or in his shop repairing his tractors. He always enjoyed sharing his love for the land with his children and grandchildren and all have many fond memories hauling hay and fixing fence. Buck will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who was always quick with a smile and kind with a word. He will be missed by many. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Jessie Cross; daughter, Johnnie Louise Cross; sisters, Julia Mae Luck, Jane Thornton and a brother, Amos Wheeler Cross. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Louise Robinson Cross; his daughter, Darlene Cross Otwell (Jerry); his son, William Randall Cross (Laura); three grandchildren, Rhonda Otwell Nitschke (Cody), Amanda Cross Sturgell (Chance) and Leigh Cross; three great-grandchildren, Kyler, Hayden and Emma Nitschke all of Benton; two sisters, Ivy Head and Ann Huff both of Texas as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
