Herbert S. Hoops, 85, of Snyder, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Hoops was a native of Tichnor; a resident of the Snyder Community outside of Hamburg for the past 18 years and a former resident of Mayflower for many years. He was a retired Chief Master Sergeant in the Air National Guard. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Crescent Masonic Lodge No. 403 and a member of the Indian Hills United Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is preceded in death by his parent, Carbo and Alice Bitley Hoops; a brother, Bob Hoops and two sisters, Merle Austin and Helen Shoemake. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Smalling Hoops of Snyder; two sons, Bobby Hoops and wife Janice, of Snyder and George Hoops and wife, Sharon, of North Little Rock; a sister, Jeannie Young of Conway; two grandchildren, Clayton "Gator" Hoops of Shiloh, Heath Hoops of North Little Rock and six great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Dalton, Garrett, Hudson, Hayden and Jackson. Graveside funeral services and burial will be 11 a.m., Monday at Edgewood Memorial Park in North Little Rock. Pallbearers are Charley Snelson, Mickey Gwin, Richard Gwin, Marvin Vestal, Jimmy Cordell and Brian Skender. Honorary pallbearers are George Green, Darrell Langston, Richard Jones, Ricky Lynn, Ecky Harrison, Jeremy Gapberry, Larry Bishop, Woody Burge, Elmo Burge, Joey Kilcrease and Jimmy Gulledge.
