Thomas (Cecil) Weatherington

Thomas (Cecil) Weatherington of Alexander, Ark., went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 2, 2014. Cecil was born Nov. 21, 1925 in Henderson, Tenn. and grew up in Blytheville, Ark. He later moved to North Little Rock, Ark. and spent the last 25 years in Alexander, Ark.. Cecil served with honor in World War II, where he received many medals, including two bronze stars. He was a true hero in war and in life, including saving the life of his neighbor's three year old child who was drowning. Cecil worked for 30 years for Worth James Construction Co. where he retired in 1990. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and friends. He was a faithful member and deacon of Avilla Baptist Church. Cecil never met a stranger. His friendly smile, kindness, and giving personality was shared with everyone who knew him. He was a man of honor. He was loved by so many people in his life and leaves so many memories. He will be missed by all who knew him. His love and devotion to his wife and children will remain with them always. Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lucy Weatherington; brother, Bill Weatherington; sisters, Alieen Oakly and Kitty Lawson. Cecil is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Nellie Weatherington of Alexander, Ark.; daughter, Stacy Whaley Gorcyca and husband Ray; son, Ted Weatherington and wife Stephanie of Hot Springs, Ark.; two grandsons, Chris Weatherington and wife Sarah of Perryville, Ark. and David Todd Weatherington and wife Cassie of Benton, Ark.; three wonderful great-granddaughters, Nikki Weatherington of Perryville, Ark. and Briana and Alyssa Weatherington of Benton, Ark.; and favorite niece, Thelma Cole of Greers Ferry, Ark. Visitation is Monday, July 7, 2014, 6–8 p.m., Smith Family Funeral Home, 322 N. Market Street, Benton, Ark., 72015. Funeral service is Tuesday, July 8, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
