Lester William Erwin, 81, of Conway passed away peacefully on July 6, 2014 at his home. He was born August 9, 1932 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to the late Burley and Luella Wilkins Erwin. Les enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a retired security specialist for the Department of Defense and insurance salesman. As a salesman he had seen almost every state in the United States and his comment was that this is a beautiful and great country. He served as a sergeant in the United States Marines and served two tours in Korea. He was very proud to have served his country and very proud to be a Marine. Les was a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the VFW, and a youth baseball coach for 20 years. Les loved and enjoyed just spending time with his wife and their dog Mitiz. They had many conversations about his childhood, having been raised in an orphanage in Helena, Montana. He always wanted to go back and show Tanna the state he so loved. We will all miss his humor and stories. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Survivors include his loving wife and friend Tanna; son, Richard (Dick) Erwin and wife Tina; daughter, Karen Scott; grandchildren, Brook Barrett and her husband Baron, Luke Erwin and his wife Kelsey, Elliot Scott and Jackson Scott; one great-grandson, Tyce Barrett. Stepchildren, Richard J. (Jeff) Fernald and Shelia Underwood and her husband Adam; step grandchildren, Tyler Vogel, Trevor Vogel, Molly Slyby, Shelby Tully, and Carson Musgrave; sister Wanda (Bunny) Peck; half-sister Grace Kolb and her husband Larry; niece, Frosty Shoemaker and her husband Tim; nephew Lee Kolb and his wife Sandy; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in Les' honor on July 8, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Conway Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Wounded Veterans Association.
