Ralph L. Holmes passed away July 5, 2014 in Fort Smith, AR. He was born March 2, 1925 in Hazen, Arkansas to Edward Alva and Ola Pearl Holmes. He served in World War II in the 8th Air Force in the European theater where he was a B-17 bomber tail gunner and earned 3 bronze stars and 1 air medal with a four oak leaf clusters. He retired as secretary and treasurer of the Shipley Baking Company. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife , Jane, of 66 years, one daughter, Brenda Deaton and husband Don, of Fayetteville, two sons, Stephen and wife Anne, of Fort Smith, Mark and wife Candi of Omaha, Ark; eight grandchildren, Jacob Holmes of Lowell, Amy Scoggins of Fort Smith,. Lori Rogers of Fayetteville, Emily Weeks of Fayetteville, Cara Hurley of Yellville, Elizabeth Roe of Omaha, and Hannah Cantu of Independence, Mo.. He was the proud grandpa to 15 great-grandchildren; Avery Holmes, Ada and Moses Scoggins, Cole, Kate and Ryan Rogers, Benjamin Weeks, Trent, Macy and Rebecca Denton, Billy, Isaac and Lila Hurley, Pennelope Cantu and Nila Roe. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Eastside Baptist Church Chapel in Fort Smith, Ark. with interment will full military honors at The U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark. Family will receive friends and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Lewis-Roberts Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith, Ark.
