Verla Jean Scott

Verla Jean Scott entered Heaven's gates on July 23, 2014 at the age of 85. Jean was born in Little Rock to Clarence and Virginia Smith and faithfully served God and her family as a devoted, loving and proud wife, mother, sister, and relative. Jean worked many years as church secretary at Rose Cumberland Presbyterian Church and many people will recall her kindness as receptionist and aide for Dr. George Mallory, where she worked part-time for several years. Many more will remember her for the beautiful cakes she made for special occasions. Jean was predeceased by her infant son, James Paul Scott; her parents; her brother, William Lynn Smith; and her son-in-law, Darrell Story. Her surviving siblings include Cliff Smith and wife Shirley; Bob Smith and wife Linda; Barbara Gambill and husband Jesse; Mary Horton and husband Donald; Sharon Carr; and Jenny Schiller and husband Eddie as well as many nieces and nephews. Jean is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, James T. ‘Tom" Scott, Sr. She is also survived by three children-Teresa Story, Jamie Dee Pinegar and her husband Mike, and James T. "Tommy" Scott, Jr. and his wife Rhonda. She has six grandchildren who were truly the light of her life who will never forget their Mamaw Scott: Adam Story (fiancé Christina Bartlett), Cecily Story, Matthew Pinegar (wife Andrea), Zachary Pinegar (wife Carolanne), Kaley Scott, and Caroline Scott. She also has seven great-grandchildren, and one who is expected to arrive in October. Visitation will be at 12 noon, Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, Ark. 72116 (501-791-7400). Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday after the visitation.
