Bruce Crisco

Bruce Crisco age 97 of Dalark died Saturday, July 26. 2014. He was born Dec. 3, 1916 the son of Tommie Lee and Bertie Davis Crisco. Bruce was the second of 10 children. They lived a hard scrabble life being sharecroppers and moving often. At the age of 15 he joined the CCC and worked around Camp Shadey sending all his monthly wages but two dollars home to help feed the family. Other times he worked the fields and saw mills to help at home. Then came WWII and he signed up to do his required one year. On the day he was to return home Pearl Harbor was attacked and he was shipped to the South Pacific for four years with 42nd Hospital Unit earning the rank of Sergeant. On May 5, 1941 Bruce married the love of his life, Minnie Dell DeLamar and on Sept. 29, 1955 a son was born. After returning home, he embarked on a career of farming and truck driving until Reynolds Metals arrived in Gum Springs where he worked until retirement, Bruce loved to hunt and fish, playing his fiddle, but his main love was dancing. Bruce and Minnie were members of the Arky Stars Square Dance Club for many years. He was a member of the Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors are one son, Myron Crisco and his wife Melinda of Manchester; one brother, Thomas Edward "Buddy" Crisco of Bismarck; two sisters, Ruby Hill of Rowlette, Texas and Blanche Pennington of Weatherford, Texas. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Chapel in Arkadelphia with Brother Don Farris officiating. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery.
