Lewis Hiram Horton

Crossett, AR, 1926 - 2014

Lewis Hiram Horton Jr., DDS, age 87, of Crossett, Ark. died peacefully in the morning of June 1, 2014. He was born on October 12, 1926 in El Dorado, Ark. to his parents, Louis and Cecelia Schneider Horton. After graduating from El Dorado High School, he served in WWII as a Merchant Marine before attending Loyola University in New Orleans where he received his degree in dentistry. Dr. Horton practiced dentistry in Crossett for 30 years. He was also a member of the Crossett Rotary Club. Besides his family, he greatly valued his parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church in Crossett. He also enjoyed gardening and working in the yard.
Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Horton. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Horton of Crossett, Ark.; a daughter, Dianne Patota of Suwanee, Ga.; two step-daughters, Mary (Gresham) Steensland of Springfield, Va., Leann (Gresham) Haynes of Perry, Ark.; one step-son, Dr. E.A. Gresham of Crossett, Ark.; one sister, Mary Ellen Comeau of Wichita, Kan.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, Ark. (www.jonesservice.com). Visitation will be held from 5: p.m. until 7 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church.
