JOSEPH R. "JOE" REED, age 84, of Little Rock passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014. He was born Feb. 15, 1930 in Fort Smith, Ark. to the late Walter S. and Sadie Correll Reed. He is preceded in death by his four brothers and three sisters, Bate Reed, Spencer Reed, Walter Reed, Jr., Milburn Reed, Bessie Didier, Ina Didier and Mollie Wetherbee. Joe grew up in Fort Smith, Ark. and graduated from Fort Smith High School, where he excelled in basketball and track. He attended Fort Smith Junior College and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with an accounting degree. He retired from the National Credit Union Administration where he worked for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served as founder and president of the Breckenridge Neighborhood Association. He was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and served as an usher there for 48 years. He was also a Master Gardner, working on the Governor's Mansion garden for 10 years. Joe was also an avid Razorback fan. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wilma Hopkins Reed; his son, David Reed (Sharon), of Austin, Texas; and two grandchildren, Joe and Elizabeth. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.
