John Emory "Johnny" Smith

Moselle, MS

Mr. John Emory "Johnny" Smith, 65, of Moselle, passed away June 7, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at Jones & Son Chapel in Moselle.
Johnny graduated from Hamburg High School in 1967. He received a parks and recreation degree at Arkansas Tech University, wildlife management and Forestry degrees from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He owned and operated Johnny's Water Care, a water condition business for a number of years in Hamburg, Ark. where he also, served as a City Councilmen and Volunteer Fireman. After earning his forestry degree in 1990 he began a career with Georgia Pacific as a procurement forester in New Augusta, Miss. Afterwards, he managed a MAP program in Monticello, Miss. and Taylorsville, Miss. for several years before retiring from Georgia Pacific in 2007. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Hamburg, Ark. and is a member of Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg. He was an avid fisherman, deer and duck hunter, and loved to camp with his life-long friends.
He is survived by his wife Belle Smith of Moselle; son John Frederick (Tara) Smith of Monticello, Ark.; step-daughter, Tina Michelle (Chris) Cobb of Petal; step-son, Michael Christopher Rogers of Moselle; sister, Camille Smith (Jack) Carpenter of Perryville, Ark.; grandchildren, Collin Cobb, Wyatt Emory Smith, and Walter Maddox Smith.
