Edgar Morton

The late Edgar Morton was born August 22, 1935 in Little Rock. He departed this world on June 8, 2014 in Little Rock Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents Big Nonnie and David, his brother Lil' David, his daughter Lil' Nonnie, his grandparents Mattie W. & Nace R. Bradford Sr., John Henry & Hettie Morton, and Aunt Elosie Bradford Smith, and Carla Warren-Morton. He was christened at an early age at First Congregational Church in Little Rock, Ark. Edgar's early education began at Gibbs Elementary School. He also attended Dunbar High School. He entered the work force at an early age and was taught the trade of brick masonry under the instruction of his Grandfather, the late Nace R. Bradford, Sr. He incorporated his business circa 1969 and was the first African American in the state of Arkansas to do so. Over the years of working in his trade Edgar held office as the Vice President of Masonry Contractors Association of America, Arkansas Chapter. He received several civic awards including being named Small Business Association Minority Contractor of the year. In addition to his excellent work history as a commercial Masonry Contractor, he was a member of Associated Contractors of America, Prince Hall Grand Lodge, The United Supreme Council Consistory JLB 33 degree Mason, and the Craftsman Hunting Club. He is survived by Toni Brady-Morton, three sons: Edgar Brian (Brenda), Alaric (Robin) and Timothy all residing in Little Rock. Three daughters: Valinda of Detroit Michigan, Ashley (Rickey), and Alexis (Levi) both of Little Rock; one Aunt Bernice Bradford Bass who resides in Adelphi, Maryland; his cousins Bennie Lou and Harry Bass of Adelphi, Maryland; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins and many, many friends. A service celebrating Mr. Morton's life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014, in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth. 501-661-9111.
