Herman Franklin Burkhead Jr. age 90, formerly of Jacksonville passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014. He was born March 14, 1924 in Ward, Arkansas to the late Herman F. Burkhead Sr. and Allene Marie Spence Burkhead. On August 3, 1946 he married Mildred Boyd, his dancing partner for life. Mr. Burkhead retired after 25 years of service with the Sunshine Biscuit Company, he was a member of Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, a longtime devoted member of Jacinto Masonic Lodge #216 in Jacksonville, he was a 32 Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, a member of the Scimitar Shrine Temple, Royal Arch Iris Chapter No. 151, Occidental Council No. 1, Hugh DePaynes Commandery No. 1, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and a charter member of the Sertoma Club in Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Burkhead, a sister, Hazel Sykes and two brothers, John Carlos and Roland Burkhead. As a master gardener extraordinaire Frank had a genuine love of The Natural State and all it has to offer. He is survived by his daughters, Tanya Boaz, Renee' Jones, three grandchildren; Shawn Schaer, Charmaine and her husband Eric Starkey, Karin and her husband Jason Ward, three great-grandchildren; Jax Schaer, Jacob and Savannah Starkey. Visitation will begin at 12 noon with Masonic Funeral Services at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Memorial may be made to The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Arkansas Youth and Scholarship Fund, 700 Scott Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72201.
