Creed C. Nix Jr., age 84, of Pine Bluff, went to be with Jesus Friday, June 13, 2014, at his home. He was the son of the late Creed C. Sr. and Ida Elizabeth Phillips Nix of Pine Bluff. Mr. Nix retired from International Paper Company after 23 years of service. He had previously worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. He was also a mechanic, rebuilding motors for friends and family. He was an active member of Oakland Baptist Church until he became limited by his health. He also enjoyed woodworking, making things for his children and grandchildren, who will miss him greatly. He was devoted to his family. He was a member of Jacob Brump Lodge #160 F&AM. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Bill Falls; and daughter, Sheila Ann Smith. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Irma Jean Vandlandingham Nix, whom he married Aug. 17, 1952, in Grant County; daughters, Carol Moore (fiancée, Bob Light), of White Hall, Cheryl Layson (John) of Little Rock; grandchildren, Amy Tripp (Todd), Collier Moore (Kara), Matt Moore, Clay Layson (fiancée, Tulika Chopra), Jake Layson (fiancee, DeeDee Balentine), Mike Layson (Tanya), Stephanie Shirley (Amon) and Allison Covington (Jeremy); 15 great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a very special "Thank You" to his loving caregiver, Michael Dilbeck, Arkansas Hospice and all his doctors and nurses during his illness and long courageous battle with Arthritis. Funeral services will be Monday, June 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Dr. Don Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson's one hour prior to service time.
