Vernon (Gene) Sutton

Vernon (Gene) Sutton, age 79, passed away on Saturday June 28, 2014. Gene was born on Nov. 20, 1934 in Howard County, Ark. He was a graduate of Sheridan High School. After high school he served in the US Army. Upon completion of his military service, he moved to Fordyce where he spent 42 years as a distributor for Flowers Bakery's until his retirement. Gene loved life and his family. He was faithful servant/member of Beech Grove Baptist Church as well as an avid fisherman and sports fan. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mattie Sutton; siblings, Floy McKinney, Maxine Smith, Euless Sutton, Erma Schooley, Fern Marshall; and son-in-law, George Crump. He is survived by his wife, Ann Sutton; daughter, Vicki Crump of Cabot; and son, Chris Sutton (Camille) of Cary, N.C.; grandchildren, Kinley Crump, Colton Crump, Hayley Crump, Alex Sutton and Christopher Sutton. Gene's grandson, Colton was a dedicated caregiver to him in his time of need. Extended family: Cliff Quarles (Jonna) and Blu Quarles (Katy) of Bearden; Peggy Maynard (Tim) of White Hall; grandchildren, Michael Richey, Dylan Quarles, Kadi Cardenas, Arika Cardenas, C.J. Quarles, Brittany (Erich) Raburn, Tyler Maynard, Harlee Ferrell, London Leach; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday 6-8 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Beech Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Petty officiating. Burial will follow at Thornton Cemetery.
