Anna Lou Heatherly

Dr. Anna Lou Heatherly passed on March 6, 2014 of Arlington Va. Sister of Julia F. Heatherly of Arlington, Va. Daughter of the late Emmette and the late Winnie Heatherly. Dr. Heatherly began her teaching career in Virginia and upon the completion of her doctorate in 1970, she continued at the University of Arkansas in Fayetville. In 1978, Dr. Heatherly began teaching in the Reading Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and remained in this position until she retired in 2001 and returned to her childhood home of Arlington, Va. During her time in Arkansas, she was instrumental in establishing the Reading Recovery Program in the state. Funeral services were held in Virginia. The family requests contributions in memory of Dr. Heatherly be made to Johns Hopkins Hospital, c/o the Anna and Julia Heatherly Fund. Murphy Funeral Home, Falls Church, Va.
