Gary Don "Donnie" Bailey

Gary Don "Donnie" Bailey, 59, of Mt. View, Ark., passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Born in Heber Springs on Aug. 22, 1954, he was the son of Duene Bittle Bailey and the late Dolan Bailey. Mr. Bailey received his bachelor's degree at University of Central Arkansas in Conway, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and also played college basketball. He received his master's degree at Northeast Louisiana University and his postgraduate degree at University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Mr. Bailey was the superintendent at Mountain Pine, Crawfordsville, and Village. He was principal at Parkdale High School and coached the senior high boys' basketball team, leading them to win two state championships. Mr. Bailey was a teacher and coach at New Edinburg. After working in education, he entered into private business. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his uncle, Dillard Bailey. Survivors include his mother, Duene Bailey of Greers Ferry; daughters, Whitney Holland and husband, Reed, of Vestavia, Ala., and Kaitlyn Jennings and husband, Jan, of Demopolis, Ala.; brothers, Dennis Bailey and wife, Karen, of Fordyce and Steve Bailey of Clinton; one grandchild, Mazzyn Jennings; aunts, Velma Norman and husband, Jim, and Kathleen Bailey; nephews, Brooks Bailey and Bronson Bailey; and nieces, Morgan Bailey and Brittany Copper. Visitation will be held Monday, March 17, beginning at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Community Church with services following at 2 p.m., officiated by Bro. Dennis Knapp. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cross Roads Cemetery. Reed Holland, Brooks Bailey, Bronson Bailey, Hunter Thomason, Rex Saddler, and Gerald Noble will serve as pallbearers. www.olmstead.cc.
