Phyllis Bloomfield Scharff, 84, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Summit Hospice in Searcy, Ark. Phyllis was born on November 10, 1929. After growing up in Stuttgart, Ark., she lived in Bluefield, West, Va., Austin, Texas, Miami, Fla., and Memphis, Tenn., before returning to Arkansas to reside in Little Rock. Phyllis lived a long and happy life, full of many interests, friends and family. She was an avid tennis and mahjong player and spent many hours at The Bridge House playing a hand. She loved entertaining friends and family at home, especially planning the large gatherings for Thanksgiving and Passover meals. When she wasn't on one of her many trips to Marco Island, she enjoyed sitting by the pool and making Peach Fuzzies. She liked to tell a good joke, always had a story to share and relished a good chocolate dessert. Phyllis was a member of the Sisterhood at Temple B'nai Israel for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Essie Bilsky Bloomfield. She is survived by her sister Sylvia (Jack) Zager of Nashville, TN; a son, Mark (Becky) Gottlieb of Little Rock; a daughter, Lee (Michael) Smith of Dunwoody, Ga.; a granddaughter, Emily Smith of Dunwoody, Ga.; grandchildren, David (Anna) Waldron of Nashville, Tenn., and Suzanne Waldron of Little Rock, Ark.; and two nephews, Steven (Debbie) Zager of Westport, Conn.; and Jeff (Susan) Zager of Nashville, Tenn. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Des Arc Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, White County Medical Center, and especially to the staff of Summit Hospice for their gentle care and attention to Phyllis. The kindness shown is appreciated more than words can say. There will be a memorial service at Temple B'Nai Israel, 3700 N. Rodney Parham Road, Little Rock, at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 23rd, with a reception following the service.
