Dorothy Louise Smith, born Oct. 23, 1920 in North Little Rock, Ark., joined her Lord and her husband, A. Richard Smith Jr., on March 14, 2014, at the home of her oldest son, John Kent Tatom and Iris (DeMarcus) Tatom in Navarre Beach, Fla. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Frank Huggins and Clata (Jarvis) Huggins, and her sister, Nancy Chapman. She is survived by three sons, Kent (Iris), Vaughn Tatom of Hot Springs and Jack (Kathy) Tatom of St. Louis, Mo.; and by seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; and by marriage, five children; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a successful business owner and investor and a retired employee of Kroger Co. She was an active church member while living in Little Rock, Hot Springs, and Navarre Beach. In Little Rock and Hot Springs she had been a Cancer Society and civic volunteer. She was an avid bridge player. The family is grateful for the loving care and friendship provided by the staff and residents at the Meridian at Westwood in Ft. Walton Beach and to Emerald Coast Hospice, including Tracy Robbins, Gail Silvani, Annie Brundidge, Frank Dole, Amy Bradley and Jennifer Gilbert. Graveside services will be held on March 29 at 11 a.m. at Memorial Gardens in Hot Springs, Ark., where she will be interred with her late husband, Dick Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society. Family-Funeral & Cremation of Pensacola is handling arrangements.
