Jimmie Dale Dodd

Jimmie Dale Dodd, 74, of Paragould, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the V A Hospital, Little Rock. Jimmie was born October 9, 1939, in Arbyrd, to Fred and Helida Ussery Dodd. He served in the Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was formerly a teacher at Oak Grove School. He was a faithful member of Second and Walnut Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Dodd of Paragould; one daughter, Jennifer (Tommy) Vanaman of Beebe; one sister, Brenda Joyce (Noble) Carter of Lane, Kansas; and one stepsister, Betty (Jim) Townsend of Paragould. He is also survived by two grandsons, Grant (Amber) Vanaman of Beebe, Cole Vanaman of Fayetteville, Arkansas; his mother-in-law, Maxine Akins of Paragould; sister-in-law, Peggy (Joel) Eaker of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Dodd; his stepmother, Mildred Sheppard Dodd; three brothers, Billy, Don, and Larry Dodd; and one sister, Melva Carnal. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with James A. Brown officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home. Tommy Vanaman, Grant Vanaman, Cole Vanaman, Kelly Eaker, Derek Boling, and Roy Draffen will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
