Earl D. Strickland

Earl D. Strickland, 92, of Bald Knob, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home. He was born August 20, 1921 in Griffithville a son of the late Frank and Mary Mantooth Strickland. Earl was a WWII Army veteran. Upon his return from his military duty, he started Strickland Lumber Company in 1947 and it still operates today. Mr. Strickland was a lifelong member of the Central Baptist Church and had served nearly 20 years as the Mayor of Bald Knob. At one time, he was the oldest sitting Mayor in the state of Arkansas. He was a former member of the White County Quorum Court as well as the Bald Knob City Council for many years. He is survived by his sons, Phillip Strickland and wife Pat and Jed Strickland and wife Rita; five grandchildren, Justin Strickland (Jessica), Nick Strickland (Jordan), Amy Simpson, Autumn Strickland Branam and Barry Strickland; eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Strickland and a brother. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Keith Lunceford and Bro. Paul Reams officiating. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery by Powell Funeral Home, Bald Knob-Judsonia. www.powellfuneralhome.net.
