Benny Wayne Wright

Mr. Benny Wayne Wright of Howell departed this life at his home on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 74 years of age. Ben was born in Howell, Arkansas on February 9, 1940; the son of Chester and Edith Weld Wright, who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Cotton Plant High School. He married Doris Reed on September 21, 1968. They shared 45 years of marriage raising five children together. After high school, Ben went on to farm in the Howell community for 27 years. After farming, he was employed by the Woodruff County Tax Assessor where he retired in 2005. Throughout his life, Ben was an avid hunter. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and being outdoors. He spent much of his time sharing these activities with his family and his beloved dogs Millie and Rosie. Following his retirement, Ben became devoted to his gardening. He spent countless hours raising the most unbelievable vegetables you can imagine just to share this joy with others. He became especially known for his exceptional tomatoes. Ben is survived by his wife, Doris Wright, four daughters; Rebecca "Shawn O'Shields", Deborah "Michael Coley", Kerry "John Hanna" of McCrory, and Cynthia Whitehead of Searcy, and one son; David Conerly of Cotton Plant; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother, and one sister. Ben was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Howell and also attended the First United Methodist Church of Cotton Plant. A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Cotton Plant, Arkansas on Wednesday, May 7th at 2 p.m.
