Beatrice Burns Shock

Beatrice Burns Shock of Austin, Arkansas passed away May 6, 2014 at the Greystone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Bea was born October 11, 1917 in Royal Township, White County, the fourth child of Floyd F. and Etta Cummings Burns. She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-seven years, Clarence A. Shock, and her parents. She was also preceded by six brothers, Chelcie, Bedford, Haskel, Troy, A.D. and McCoy (Son); and her sister, Marcill Moncrief. Bea is survived by her son, Ray (Nancy) Shock of Jackson, Missouri; two grandchildren, Beth Shock and Pam Alston; three great-grandchildren, Jackson Shock, Jason Robles and Ryan Beyersdorff; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Cearley of Austin and brother, Bill Burns of Cabot. Bea attended school at Mt. Sidon in Royal Township and El Paso. She is a lifelong resident of the Baugh Chapel community and a member of the Baugh Chapel church. She and her husband farmed, and beginning during WWII, she worked as a seamstress for several manufacturers. She was a member of the great society that lived during the depression of the thirties and WWII. From this experience, she learned to be self-supporting and maintained her independence until age 96. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the outstanding care she received from the ladies at Greystone Nursing and Rehab Center and to nurse Stephanie with Gentiva Hospice Healthcare. All her family wishes to thank her niece, Debbie Patrom, for the many hours she devoted to helping Bea. Her devotion allowed Bea to live in her home and maintain her independence for many additional years. Debbie is a true angel. Memorials may be made to Apple Hill Cemetery, c/o Ray Haymes, 106 N. A visitation for family and friends will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, with funeral to follow at 11 a.m. at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.
