Jake J. Whitehead

Jake J. Whitehead, 80, of Magnolia, Ark. passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at his home in Magnolia. Jake was born February 25, 1934 in Rosston, Ark. to the late Thomas Owen and Hazel (Johnson) Whitehead. He was a professor and taught at Concord College in Athens, West Virginia, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga., and Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. He was a member of the Optimist Club, Lions Club, Harton Players Theatrical Society, and the Alpha Psi Omega Dramatic Fraternity. Jake is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Jane Whitehead of Magnolia; sons Mitch Whitehead of Midlothian, Texas, Marc Whitehead and wife Kelly of Tampa, Fla., and Mike Whitehead of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Matt Whitehead, Megan Murphy, Miles Whitehead, Chelsea Whitehead, Caitlin Whitehead, Christopher Whitehead, and Garrett Whitehead; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 12th at 2 p.m. at Lewis Chapel with Rev. Raymond Cammack officiating. Burial will follow at the Rosston Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to7 p.m. Pallbearers will be Matt Whitehead, Miles Whitehead, Christopher Whitehead, Garrett Whitehead, Chance Murphy, and David Bennett.
