Jane Mobley, 87, of Little Rock, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, the sixth child of eleven, to Orie Jay and Jeneva Simmons. During her lifetime, Jane worked in a variety of positions, from maid to bus girl to operating a milling machine making gun slides and gun sights during WWII, working for United Press International in Indianapolis and Washington, D.C. during sessions of Congress and the Supreme Court, to setting type and proof reading for various newspapers. Her last career was working as a computer programmer analyst as well as teaching computer science. Upon retirement, Jane did substitute teaching at Sylvan Hills High School, worked with the Literacy Council, was a Youth Minister at Runyan 1st Baptist and Remount Baptist Churches in North Little Rock, and loved to write short stories for children. Preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings and a son-in-law, she is survived by her husband of 68 years, Edgar Mobley; daughters, Karen and husband, Thomas Purifoy, Judy and husband, Russ Cockrum, and Barbara and husband, Robert Stanley; seven grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, May 29 from 5-7 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). A Celebration of Jane's life will be held on Friday, May 30 at 11:30 a.m. at Parkway Place Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Allan Greer.
