Mr. Robert "Bob" Carver, age 78, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at his home. Bob's family has a rich history here in our community; he was born March 28, 1936 in Mena, Arkansas, to Richard A. Carver and Frances Finks Carver, one of seven children. Bob's parent's were the owners of Carver's LP Gas Company in Mena and Richard was on the Board at the Union Bank and Francis was active on the Library Board. Bob's Grandfather, W.A. Finks, served as Vice President of the Bank, and his grandmother, Francis Finks was a founder of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) in Polk County. Bob was a 1954 graduate of Mena High School and carried many titles in life, including that of a Math Teacher and Assistant Coach at Mena Public Schools for four4 years. After that, he went into the propane business with his father and ran the distribution office in Nashville, Arkansas for 9 years. But most knew him for his dealership, the proud owner of Bob Carver's Cars and Trucks. In October 1970, Bob purchased Reeves Chevrolet Dealership from Gene and Mary Reeves that was located on Main Street. Growth of the business lead to the need for a new facility that was built in 1980 and is the present location. Bob was something of an icon in the community; he was on the Union Bank Board of Directors and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Lions and the Elks Clubs, and the I-49 commission, but if anyone knew Bob, they knew his real passion was the Razorbacks. He was on the War Memorial Stadium Commission in Little Rock for 36 years and served as a spotter for the Hogs for 38 years. Bob was also a veteran, serving as Major in the Army National Guard for 23 years. He will be greatly missed by his friends, and family, and all who had the pleasure of a friendly conversation or a heated chat about football. He was a loving brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by: brothers: Dr. Richard Carver of Mena, Arkansas, Michael Carver of Satellite Beach, Florida, David Carver of Woodside, California, Dr. Steve Carver of Santa Fe, New Mexico; sister: Clayta Scott of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews, and friends too great to mention. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Frances Carver, a brother, Bill Carver, and a nephew, Win Wardlaw. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mena with Reverend Gary Harrison officiating and Danny Thrailkill with comments. Interment follows in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday evening May 29th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Adam Carver, David Carver, Sam Carver, John Clay Scott, Collins Scott and Darron Pitchford. Honorary pallbearers are Ed Stevenson and the Union Bank Board of Directors and the Employees of Bob Carver's Cars and Trucks. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Mena. Online obituary available at www.beasleywoodfuneralhome.com.
