William Cooper Smith, 77, passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2014 at his home in Wynne surrounded by his wife and four children. Born June 13, 1937, he was the son of the late W. O. Smith and Vioma Cooper Smith. He grew up in West Memphis, Ark., graduated from Ole Miss and became a high school football coach in Florida, Walnut Ridge, Helena, Harrison and Wynne, Ark. He later went to work for Spaulding Athletics and spent 25 years calling on Northeast Arkansas High Schools. Coach Smith is survived by his wife, Patti Harlow Smith of the home; two sons, Dub Smith (Dawn) of Wynne and Dirk Smith (Jennifer) of West Memphis; two daughters, Stephanie Prince (Jimmy) of Wynne and Shannon Simpson (Gregg) of Jonesboro and 10 grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Ark. A memorial and celebration of life service will be held at the Wynne Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m. Online guestbook: www.rollerfuneralhomes.com.
