Martha Jane Mann

Mrs. Martha Jane McCollum Mann, age 85, of Memphis, Tenn., former longtime resident of Forrest City, Ark. died in Memphis on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014. Mrs. Mann was born March 9, 1929 in Memphis. She was the daughter of Fred McCollum Sr. and Varnelle Bonner. Mrs. Mann was a housewife and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Forrest City and member of the UMW. She attended the University of Mary Washington in Virginia and the University of Arkansas where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Mrs. Mann was a devoted mother who took a great interest in cooking and gardening. Mrs. Mann married John Westwood Mann Jr. in 1951. He preceded her in death in 1986. She is survived by two daughters; Cile Mann Brooks; and husband, Philip P. Brooks III of Memphis, and Martha Jane Mann of St. Paul Minnesota; a brother, Bonner McCollum of Forrest City. Two grandchildren also survive her, Eleanor Jane Brooks and Philip John Brooks. A son, John Westwood Mann III preceded her in death in 1977. Also a brother, Fred Newton McCollum, and a sister, Counts McCollum Felton preceded her in death. Graveside will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City with a reception to follow at the First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 620 E. Broadway, Forrest City, Ark., 72335.
