Samuel Wofford

DR. SAMUEL WOFFORD, 67, of Little Rock, Ark. passed away Nov. 13, 2014. His education started in Arkansas Public School System in Cotton Plant, Ark. He received his bachelor of science degree in biology and chemistry from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, formerly AM&N College. His medical technology degree was earned at the Veterans Administration in Little Rock, Ark. and a doctor of dental surgery degree was awarded from Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, Tenn. Dr. Wofford worked as a dentist for over 37 years in private practice. He was a retired Lt. Colonel from the United States Air Force. His prior careers included The Arkansas Children's Colony in Alexander, Ark., teacher of biology and math in the Arkansas Public School system in Carthage, Ark., a medical technologist for the Veteran Administration in Kansas City, Mo. and Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn. and the director for the dental unit for the United States Air Force (LRAF Base) in Jacksonville, Ark. Dr. Wofford was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Rosie Wofford Shearrod, and his grandparents, who reared him, Rev. Byas and Mrs. Birtha Wofford and one sister, Ms. Sharon Shearrod, Anchorage, Alaska. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Shirley Wofford; two sons, Timothy (Valarie), Cabot, Ark. and Anthony, Ga.; three grandsons, Akiemian, Davis and Zachary; siblings, Dr. Lois Wofford Harlston, Madison, Tenn., Mrs. Irma Shearrod-Owens (Kenneth) San Pablo, Calif., Mr. Ambrose Shearrod, Chicago, Ill., Mr. Basil Shearrod, Cotton Plant, Ark., Ms. Naomi Shearrod, Anchorage, Alaska, Ms. Lamoune Shearrod, Anchorage, Alaska and Mr. Zephaniah Shearrod, Chicago, Ill. His memory is also cherished by close family friends, Hubert and Katy Jackson of Gulf Port, Miss. and a host of nieces and nephews. Home going services will be on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, 11 a.m. Family hour: Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, 6-7 p.m., both services at Christway Missionary Baptist Church, 4324 Potter Street, Little Rock, AR. Interment with honors will be on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, 10 a.m. at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 Maryland Ave. NLR, AR.
