Robert "Rusty" Tanner

Robert R. "Rusty" Tanner, 73, of Austin passed on Saturday, November 15, 2014. He was born November 24, 1940 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to the late Homer Tanner and Janet Sharp. He was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church. Rusty enlisted in the Air National Guard at a young age and attended Airfreight School at Sheppard AFB. He began his teaching career in 1970 as an Instructor Loadmaster and an Academic Instructor with the Air National Guard Enlisted Aircrew Academic School. He has instructed over 200 classes consisting of over 2,500 students. Rusty was a true legend in the loadmaster career field. He has influenced countless aircrew members' careers and has left the loadmaster profession tremendously better than he found it. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Porter Tanner, children; Matthew Tanner, Andrew Tanner, Rachel Tanner, brothers; Tom Tanner, Larry Tanner, grandchildren; Kyle, Myles, Jordyn, Austen, Connor, Kaydence, Abraham, and Maximus. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 2 p.m., at the funeral home chapel. Arrangements are by Moore's Funeral Home in Cabot.
